Data center guide
Pick the right facility based on power density, interconnection needs, redundancy design and operating model. Frankfurt customers can also combine two locations for metro-redundant deployments.
Equinix FR5
Main Frankfurt colocation site for standard 1U, 10U and larger customer deployments. Strong choice when you want mature interconnection, meet-me-room access and direct Frankfurt ecosystem reach.
Equinix FR7
Strong secondary Frankfurt site with meet-me-room, large sellable power base and good local ecosystem access. Useful as a second metro location for failover or dual-site designs.
Equinix FR8
Newer Frankfurt site with high per-cabinet power profile. Good for dense compute, larger power draw and deployments that benefit from being outside the same exact city campus as FR5/FR7.
Equinix SV4
Sunnyvale / Silicon Valley location for customers that need US West Coast presence, low-latency access to Bay Area networks and a US landing point for global infrastructure.
Colt Frankfurt City
Carrier-neutral Frankfurt City data center with Tier 3 design and strong connectivity options. Better suited for pure compute or network PoP deployments that do not require meet-me-room access or a large local ecosystem presence.
Cogent Frankfurt
Good for compute-only PoP or backup deployments that do not require meet-me-room access or a large local ecosystem presence.
Double-location redundancy
For customers that cannot rely on a single building, SMARTNET can design dual-site deployments across Frankfurt or combine Frankfurt with Silicon Valley for geographic redundancy.
FR5 + FR7
Best default Frankfurt metro redundancy pair. Both sites have meet-me-room availability and strong interconnection options.
- Same Frankfurt metro
- Different physical buildings
- Good for routers, firewalls, clustered services and BGP redundancy
- Low-latency metro design
FR5 + FR8
Better if the second site needs more power density or if the customer wants diversity away from the core Kleyerstraße/Gutleutstraße area.
- Primary colo in FR5
- Higher-density backup or compute in FR8
- Good for active-passive server clusters
- Useful for separate DDoS or backup equipment
Frankfurt + SV4
Geographic redundancy between Europe and the US West Coast. Not a low-latency HA pair, but useful for global service resilience.
- Europe + US presence
- Good for DNS, control planes, backups and global services
- Separate legal, power and metro risk profile
- Useful for international customers
Remote hands and connectivity
Remote hands are available via the customer portal. Connectivity can be delivered with IP Transit, cross-connects and BGP.
Remote hands
- On-site technical assistance
- Equipment installation
- Interface card removal and installation
- Carrier circuit testing
- Inventory, photos and serial capture
- Power cycle or soft-boot
Connectivity
- Carrier-grade IP Transit
- Cross-connects to carriers and partners
- IPv4 and IPv6
- BGP sessions
Add-ons
- Additional cross-connects
- Additional DC power
- Storage space
- Staging area
Colocation with SMARTNET
Why Frankfurt?
Frankfurt is one of Europe’s largest internet markets. Hosting your hardware here gives you direct access to carriers, internet exchanges and cloud networks.
The case for colocation
Colocation provides stable power, physical security and network options that are difficult to match in office or on-premise environments.
Security and access
Facilities use physical access control, biometric verification, CCTV monitoring and on-site staff presence.
A platform for growth
From single servers to larger deployments, colocation with SMARTNET provides a connected and secure base for your infrastructure.
